Troy Sargent is a Disneyland musician, freelance trumpet player and music educator located in Orange Country, California.
As an educator, Troy has had the opportunity to serve as a Brass Caption-Head, Trumpet Section Instructor, and Guest Artist at various high schools in the Greater Los Angeles Area including Fountain Valley High School, Edison High School, Eleanore Roosevelt High School, Marina High School, Portola High School, Troy High School, and La Quinta High School. Troy especially enjoys teaching students at the High School level and has helped his students nurture a lifelong passion for music.
As a performer, Troy currently serves as a member of the Disneyland Band and as the Co-Principal Trumpet of Synesthesia Sinfonietta. He has previously served as the Second Trumpet of the American Youth Symphony. As a freelancer, he has appeared in venues that include: the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Segerstrom Concert Hall, the Richard Nixon Library, L’église de la Madeleine, the Chateau de Chantilly, Bovard Auditorium, Royce Hall, The Gem Theater, the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, Meng Concert Hall, the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, Ramo Recital Hall, the Clayes Performing Arts Center Recital Hall, The Gerald R. Daniel Recital Hall, the Reno Jazz Festival, the Newport Jazz Festival, and at the Disneyland Resort as well as many other theaters, churches, and schools.
Troy completed his Masters in Trumpet Performance at the University of Southern California under the instruction of Thomas Hooten and Jennifer Marotta . Prior to this, he completed a Bachelors in Trumpet Performance from California State University, Fullerton where he studied with Barry Perkins and Malcolm McNab.

I have been taking trumpet lessons from Troy for about 16 months and I highly recommend him as an excellent , very patient and encouraging teacher. I am 80 years old and before lessons with Troy had not touched my horn since high school. He started with the basics and with his guidance my skills improved nearly to the level when I played in the high school orchestra and concert band. In addition to being a very good teacher, Troy is also an excellent musician and his passion for music and sharing is highly inspiring. Being an excellent teacher and musician is just part of Troy. He tops it off with a big personality and a good guy to be around. If you are 8 or 80 and are looking for a teacher with outstanding credentials who is very patient and makes learning fun be sure to ask for Troy as your teacher.

Troy has been wonderful working with my son, who started trumpet at age 10 and is now in the middle school concert band. Troy has the energy and enthusiasm to keep my son engaged and interested. He always enjoys his lessons and has grown so much as a musician with Troy’s support.

Troy's approach to teaching is spectacular and I appreciate that despite me having some past experience, his approach makes sure I have a good foundation of the basic skills on which to build upon. Troy is passionate about teaching it really shows!

Troy is an amazing teacher! He is patient and very detailed especially with our kiddo who has ADHD and gets distracted very easy. Troy has help our kiddo from just learning how to start playing to being an accomplished player. If you go with Troy you will not be disappointed. He is very generous with his schedule and it is easy to find tines after school that work for our family. We 100% recommend his services and expertise!
Troy is absolutely amazing! He is so kind and understanding. He walked my son through every step and provides updates and suggestions frequently. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone.
Working with Troy was great. More than your money's worth. He did a good job diagnosing embouchure / air flow / sound issues via webcam and working me through a variety of exercises from scales to interval exercises to rhythm practice including lip buzzing and lip bends, as well as other techniques to help me raise my range. He was also helpful in heading off bad habits and giving suggestions for things to work on. He was responsive when I asked to reschedule a lesson for later on and working around different schedules. Would highly recommend.

Troy is very patient and calm with students.
Troy is a great teacher. He is patient, kind and funny. He plans the course carefully. Troy is also flexible and understanding that sometimes we have to change our schedule and he try his best to compromise. My son loves his class.

Great teacher for young kids!
My son just had his first lesson and he was happy! He has been frustrated because he hasn't had a lesson with an instructor and has been self-teaching. He is mildly autistic and gets frustrated easily. That wasn't an issue with his lesson.
We just had the first lesson, and Troy came well prepared and was thorough and engaging. I could tell that he has lots of experiences and he was quick to learn about the student's level and needs. He is also fun, so he would be an excellent teacher especially for the young students. My son is 11 yr and he started picking things up from the first lesson. We would recommend Troy for beginners interested in becoming better trumpet players.

a great teacher and fun
I had a lot of fun on my lesson. I learned a lot and I learned about different types of trumpets and it was a great experience and I definitely recommend Mr. Troy. I am 12 and just beginning to play trumpet.

His is a great and fun instructor. My 12 year old had a blast and is extremely excited to keep learning trumpet. He was also very patient with the seemingly 10,000 questions my son threw at him.

Troy is a lifesaver! It didn’t take him long at all to get to know my son and help him learn foundational trumpet skills. This is the boost that my son needed!

Teaching Style
Lessons are tailored to each students needs! However, I generally split each lesson into a "fundamentals" workout as well as a "repertoire" workout.
Curriculum
Required lesson materials will be a combination of your school materials, instructor written materials, and method books / etudes that are appropriate for the students level.
