About

Hello future students!

Hello future students!

My name is Tyus, I am the youngest of seven kids in a very, very, musical family. I grew up immersed in a vibrant mix of genres—from Country to Christian, Pop, Rock, Hip hop, and Musical Theater. With this vast exposure, I grew to have a passion for music. This passion has led me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Music at the University of Central Florida (UCF, Orlando, FL), where I am currently studying and on track to graduate in 2026 after transferring from Orange Coast College (Costa Mesa, CA).

At OCC, I performed with the Jazz Ensemble, OCC Chorale, Studio Guitar Ensemble, and Musical Performance class from 2022–2024, these experiences really grew my skills in live performance and collaboration. Outside of school, I have had over 10 years of experience leading worship in various Christian based ministries and churches, this gave me practical performance and teaching experiences in a community setting.

Over the past five years, I have taught private guitar lessons to children and teens, a few with special needs including autism and Down syndrome. Currently, I balance my teaching with part-time work as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) in the ABA field, which equips me to create supportive, individualized learning environments for all students.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each student's unique needs and interests. I like to break lessons into small, achievable steps. Whether it’s learning a first chord, playing a favorite cartoon theme song, or strumming a worship tunes. It's important to me to keep students motivated and confident with simple easy to achieve steps.

Because of my RBT training and ABA experience, I tend to use positive reinforcements, clear structure, and adaptive strategies to ensure success for every learner. I really enjoy helping students with special needs discover the joy of guitar in ways that feel accessible and fun.

Curriculum

I tend to use a progressive method, starting with fundamentals like hand positioning, chords, and rhythm. I then advance to scales, improvisation, and performance skills at a pace that matches each student’s development. For kids, I weave in games, visuals, and real-world music to keep lessons engaging. I love blending in songs from students’ personal interests—whether that’s Disney, pop hits, or classic rock—to make learning relevant and exciting.
