About

I have been involved with music for thirty- six years. When I was sixteen, I started singing in the church choir and I fell in love with singing. I worked a part time job to pay for music lessons. This led me to pursue an associates in arts degree for liberal Arts Emphasis in Creative and Applied Arts. I soon grew interested in making and producing my own music. This led me to earning my certificate for Music- Digital Audio Applications from MiraCosta college. I am currently volunteering as the sound engineer and substitute worship leader at my church.

I have been playing piano for thirty -four years and I also teach a few private students.  In 2021 I was awarded for my participation at Leading Notes Studios. Additionally, I have been giving piano lessons to members of my church.

When I was in my thirties, I made it to the top ten in a Justin Timberlake competition. I participated in several professional recitals and am familiar with the requirements for competitions and performances.

Teaching Style

I would describe my teaching style as warm and friendly. My goal is to help students feel more comfortable in trying new instruments. I remember what it was like to learn something new, and I want my students to feel confident. I am especially welcoming to absolute beginners. I feel my style will be a great fit for those who are new to music. If you leave my class with a smile, then I have done my job.

Curriculum

I teach from Alfred's Essential of Music Theory books. If you are a beginner, I recommend book number 1 to begin. If you are unsure about which level to purchase, feel free to message me before booking. The name of the book you need to buy for this class is Alfred's Essential of Music Theory book by Andrew Surmani, Karen Farnum Surmani and Morton Manus. You can buy this book at amazon.com. There will be games and tests for students about music theory.
