Ziad Helou
About
I am an experienced Lebanese musician and teacher specializing in Oriental Oud, singing, and solfege, with over ten years of experience. I studied at the Lebanese National Conservatory, where I developed a deep foundation in both performance and music theory. I previously taught at Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon, and have also offered private lessons to students of all levels. Additionally, I served as a concertmaster for more than five years with the oriental orchestra "Loubnan Assalam," which enriched my experience in both solo and ensemble performance.
After relocating to Germany to pursue further studies, I continue to share my passion for Oriental music with students of all ages and skill levels. I teach in English, French, and Arabic and offer both in-person and online lessons. I believe that music is a journey, and I enjoy helping my students develop a strong foundation that enables them to express themselves confidently through music.
Teaching Style
My approach to teaching is tailored to each student’s goals and learning pace. I prioritize a solid understanding of music theory and solfege to establish a strong foundation. With Oud students, I focus first on musical notes and notation before moving into repertoire. For students interested in singing, I incorporate Oriental scales and solfege exercises to build vocal strength and versatility. My classes are interactive and I often play duets with students to reinforce learning through real-time practice.
I am a supportive and patient teacher who adapts to different learning styles. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced musician, I work with you to set achievable goals and build confidence in your abilities. Dedication and passion are key, and I guide my students to find joy and fulfillment in their musical journey.
Curriculum
My teaching method involves a balance of theory, practical exercises, and repertoire. For Oud, I recommend starting with music notation exercises, followed by basic and advanced pieces. For vocal training, we work through Oriental scales such as Rast, Bayet, Siga, Ajam, etc.. as well as quarter notes unique to Middle Eastern music.
For solfege, I use the book of oriental scales by Georges Farah, which is widely regarded as an essential resource for learning Oriental scales and quarter tones. This book serves as the foundation for developing musical literacy and is an invaluable resource for students looking to deepen their understanding of both Western and Oriental music.
