About
My background in the performing arts includes making my Broadway debut in Mamma Mia! at the Winter Garden Theater. Since then, I have continued to pursue the arts while sharing my knowledge and experience with students of all ages, in person and online.
I hold a BA in Drama and English Literature from Hofstra University and am based in both New York City and my hometown of Orange County, California. My combined experience in music, theater, and literature informs my approach to teaching.
Teaching Style
Whether preparing a student to audition for a school production, nurturing their excitement for the performing arts through regular practice, or introducing them to the fundamentals of performance, I strive to strengthen their focus, imagination, self-expression, character development, and connection through song. I especially love helping young artists discover material that celebrates their individuality, builds confidence, and encourages them to explore and expand their artistic range.
Curriculum
Our sessions are designed for performing artists who love to sing, tell stories, and bring characters to life through music.
You choose how we begin. We can start with a guided vocal and physical warm-up. If you arrive ready to work, we can jump right into a song of your choosing. A musical accompaniment track is encouraged, though we can also work a cappella.
Throughout our time together, I will lead you through a variety of acting and vocal exercises designed to strengthen your character development, deepen your emotional connection, and refine (or define) your musical sound.
Our work may include:
Concentration: Developing focus, presence, observation, and intention.
Emotional Recall: Drawing on personal experience and memory to connect with a song or character.
Sensory Stimulation: Using an external force to step outside of oneself to serve the story or character. Imagination, observation, and the art of being present are key.
Atmosphere and Gesture: Exploring how environment and movement inform music and character.
Form, Rhythm, and Tempo: Expressive possibilities in movement and speech, while preparing for song or dialogue.
Creative Individuality: Discovering your unique musical and dramatic voice. Cultivating your individual humanity and bringing a bit of yourself into everything you do. But always in service of the character, the material, and the audience.
Composition: Mapping the physical and dramatic “arc” of a character or song.
Continued Study
Should you choose to continue working with me, I will offer individualized practice assignments between lessons, along with suggestions for expanding your repertoire. I especially love helping artists discover new material that challenges them while highlighting their unique gifts and personalities. My goal is to help singers develop a deeper connection to their material, strengthen their storytelling, and bring their most compelling selves to their work.
