Claire Corriveau
About
I have been making a living as a touring/gigging musician for the last eight years, playing in a variety of styles, both solo and as part of a band. As a solo performer, I play acoustic folk rock with layered vocals and guitar parts. I also play keys and sing with The Lucky Dutch, a guitar driven rock n roll band. We have toured all across the country and are a regular favorite around the Midwest. I have three full length albums out on ITunes and a couple EPs as well. I earned my Bachelor's of Music degree from Columbia College Chicago in 2012 and have been teaching ever since.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is built on the idea that we are all life long students and there is always something new to learn. I practice "positive self speech" which means we always speak in terms of growth and challenges, never saying "I can't" or "it's too hard" Phrases like this assume that ability is stable, when in reality it is an ever changing, ever growing set of skills to be honed and nurtured. I love teaching music theory and will sneak it in wherever I can, to help decipher a complicated passage or unveil the writer's intentions for unconventional chords. As a classically trained vocalist, I have a strong foundation in breath efficiency and vowel modification, both of which are valuable in every style of music. I also understand the finer subtleties that distinguish different styles and can work to bring a student's voice to life in their chosen genre.
Curriculum
Curriculum varies based on student interest and skill level. I will always seek to provide music that inspires and interests the student at an appropriate challenging level. We will always work on scales and arpeggios and include relevant concepts as they arise.
