About

"A musician of many talents who is passionate about playing all styles of music," is how I would describe myself. I have studied and practiced the viola under master musicians from San Jacinto College and the University of Texas at Brownsville, where I remained principal violist at both institutions throughout my academic studies and degrees earned. My focal points are on the viola and violin, but I certainly am not limited to those two instruments. Performing in chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras regularly keeps me sharp in music theory, and frequent songwriting helps keep my rhythm guitar, ukulele, and piano in practice. I am furthering my study of music at Sam Houston State University as a current student of Music Therapy.

I am convinced that music--whether hobby, passion, or to cope--is not just for the elite, despite the rapid rise of prices; instruction can also be high-pressure and critical. I aim to keep my lessons A) affordable so that music lessons are attainable to more than one demographic, and B) fun, by pointing out what students are doing right and offering encouragement on what they can do to improve. Sharing my love and knowledge of music with others is one of my many talents--with over 18 years of teaching experience, I am still enthusiastic about each lesson.

Teaching Style

I tailor my lessons to fit each individual needs of the students I teach. Each lesson is focused on having fun and enjoying the instrument that is being played! The best way to learn to play an instrument, after all, is to PLAY!

Curriculum

My teaching method varies for each student. I tailor my lessons to fit the needs of each individual.  A trial lesson is recommended to get to know the musical experience of the learner, and I will recommend a good method at that time if one has not already been established by a previous instructor. I have a variety of teaching experiences and materials to work with--from advanced college student auditions to beginner adults, from no music exposure to 4 year old prodigies. My goal is to keep music (and the lessons) fun and engaging!
