About
I began playing the violin at age 7 and I have enjoyed every moment since! I switched to the viola at age 19 and pursued both a bachelor's and master's degree in performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music. Music is always a journey and I have been lucky enough to perform in Germany, Denmark, Japan, China, and even in Carnegie Hall! I have been teaching for over 13 years and I have had students go on to play in Carnegie Hall, attend Interlochen Summer Arts Festival, and pursue degrees in music. There is so much joy in music and I try to always help students discover their own voice trough refining technique and constant shifts in perspective to solve problems and move forward. Music should always be fun and ultimately I want to give students the skills to teach themselves and to become their own musical force!
Teaching Style
Through all levels on the violin/viola it's so important to have fun creating music! During our first lesson I like to ask about your goals with the instrument and goals with music. Then from there we formulate a plan with many small achievable goals so that you can be celebrating your success along the way. Usually I structure the lesson with half of the time spent on fun technique building exercises that will allow you to play with ease and then we move on to a goal piece for the second half. When we are working any piece of music I give my students the tools to deconstruct each piece measure by measure and note by note so that they have a deep understanding of the music--ultimately I give my students the tools to become their own teacher and their own musical voice!
