Leigha Kelley

I am a professional flutist and hold my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Flute Performance from Florida State Univeristy in Tallahassee, Florida. I offer over 20 years of experience as a flutist, including 7 years of private flute instruction.

I have performed in a variety of ensembles and chamber groups on flute and piccolo, given solo recitals, and taught private lessons to students of many ages and experience levels. My teaching experience includes working with beginners through advanced students from diverse musical backgrounds.

I enjoy teaching a wide range of musical styles, including Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary music. I am especially passionate about helping students discover what excites them about music while developing confidence, strong technique, and a lifelong love for the flute.

I believe in creating a nurturing and encouraging environment where students feel supported. I work with each student to establish both short and long term goals, track progress and have fun while learning music. This process helps students build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of accomplishment as they pursue their musical goals.

My primary goals as a teacher are to:

• Provide students with the tools needed to develop effective practice and performance techniques tailored to their individual strengths and learning styles

• Inspire confidence in both musical ability and self-expression

• Encourage students to become independent, self-sufficient learners

Lessons are designed to meet each student’s unique needs and goals, whether they are focused on practicing efficiently, performing, or preparing for auditions. By fostering a supportive, judgment-free learning environment, students are encouraged to explore beyond their comfort zones, develop problem-solving skills, and discover individualized approaches to practicing and performing.
