About

Eliza Waldman is an award-winning teacher and songwriter. She is trained in both jazz and classical theory, and holds a BA in Music from Vassar College, where she was awarded the Elisabeth Locke Scholarship in music. She was a 2024 Audiofemme Agenda Grant Finalist and won a 2025 Wavy Award for the Live Performance Category. She was also Lessonface's 2023 Songwriting Teacher Of The Year.

She is a touring songwriter and guitarist and teaches both private students and rock ensembles. She has coached at camps which include Hochstein School of Music and Dance Guitar Camp, NYC Rock Camp, New York City Guitar School Summer Camp, and Willie Mae Rock Camp. She has been teaching private students for over a decade, and loves working with young children, older kids working on honing their skills, and adults who may be interested in picking up an instrument for the first time or brushing up on skills. Each year she prepares students for NYSSMA and loves to coach interested students preparing for that. She is currently a part-time music teacher at the Birch Wathen Lenox School in New York City, where she teaches private lessons, a rock band program for lower through upper school, and music production classes. Instruments include guitar, electric bass, ukulele, piano/keyboard, songwriting/vocal coaching, and drum kit.

Teaching Style

My approach is to find a teaching method that works for you. For one student, that might mean working on formal reading skills and using a method book, for another student, it might mean working on scales and learning rock songs, for another it might be an intensive songwriting project. I want to coach you to achieve your goals! For younger students,  I also use a variety of games and other enrichment activities.

Curriculum

The ones I prefer are Hal Leonard Method Book series for guitar, bass, drums, ukulele and Faber for piano, but just let me know if there's another series you've been working out of.
