About

Jake Robinson has been teaching drum lessons for 12+ years. Jake graduated with a Bachelor's in Commercial Music from Belmont University in Nashville, TN. While at Belmont, Jake strengthened his skill-set in live performance, studio recording, music theory, harmony, ear training, songwriting, and music production. Jake was an understudy to: Zoro the Drummer (toured and recorded with Lenny Kravitz, Bobby Brown), Chester Thompson (toured and recorded with Phil Collins).

Teaching Style

For the last 25 years, Jake has been performing on the drums. Well over 4,000+ shows. From sold out arenas to small intimate shows, you can see Jake behind the kit. He specializes in funk, blues, Pop/Rock, and Gospel, and Country genres. In addition, Jake has had the opportunity to play drums/percussion on 12 albums; all recorded on Music Row in Nashville, TN.

Curriculum

I offer fully customizable lessons for each unique student I get to work with. I love pursuing creativity and pushing the limits with my students, it makes the lesson fun!

For beginners, we will cover the classic teachings of George Lawrence Stone’s Stick Control and Ted Reed’s Syncopation.  For intermediate and advanced, we will trade 4's, read and transcribe out of Groove Essentials by Tommy Igoe, and Commandments of R&B Drumming by Zoro to start. I also write and produce songs using Logic Pro X. I offer my experience in song composition, recording production, and drum tuning.

Practice is key, so I'll help you work out a practice cadence to improve your playing that fits your schedule.
