Sharon Yung

Native of Hong Kong, and currently based in Brooklyn, New York, Sharon has been playing the violin for over 35yrs.  She received her earlier musical training at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. During her study at the Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati and in Brooklyn College, Sharon further her muiscal training under renowned teachers such as, Prof. Igor Ozim, Prof Kurt Sassmanshaus, Itzark Perlman, Maoso Kawasaki and Mela Tenenbaum. 

      Sharon has been teaching the violin for over 25 yrs, and has been an active performer in the greater New York area. She has been an active member of Music Under New York since 2018 and joined the Times Square Alliance in 2019.

I have been an active freelancing violinst in the metropolitan New York area, U.S. for the past 25 more years. I have been teaching violin for over 25 years, both in individual and small group (4to6students) settings. I am commited to teaching violin students of all ages, from 5years old and up, all levels.  Beginning students will learn to read notes that are corresponding to the finger they are learning, as well as learn to read and notate rhythms. Songs and additional short exercises will be used as supplementary materials In the beginner level, we will cover D,G,C and F major in 1octave. For Intermediate and advance students, materials will be tailored to the student's needs. I also help students with auditions and exams preparations.

Since the pandemic started, I find that it,s more benefitual to have students send in a short practice video during midweek, in addition to their weekly lessons, for me to give feedbacks.  It reinforce specific skill tasks we are working on and promote good practice habits. I also can supplement the lessons with short tutorials demonstrating and explaining the skill sets.
