About

Hi! My name is Itzel Reyna. I’m a professional saxophone player, instructor, and music lover. I was awarded the first-ever Latin GRAMMY Prodigy Scholarship in 2015 in partnership with pop star Enrique Iglesias and Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2019 and I’ve been giving saxophone/music lessons for the past 10 years. I’ve recorded several albums as a sideman and performed professionally with numerous bands in Boston, Mexico City, and New York. I’m currently an ambassador for the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation in Miami as well as a session musician, performer, and composer for digital media (art installations & film).

I train students in all styles (jazz, latin, rock, blues, pop, etc.) and all levels. I can help you with topics such as technique, sound, improvisation, transcriptions, ear training, music theory, composition techniques, practice routines, audition preps, scholarship inquiries, etc. I have experience teaching both adults and children.

In addition to music lessons, I also teach Spanish lessons. Soy hispanohablante. Nací y crecí en la Ciudad de México antes de mudarme a USA para estudiar música.

Teaching Style

In our first lesson, I want to learn about the student’s expectations, goals, and previous experience. This will help me determine how to start working with them and create a good learning environment from day 1.

SAXOPHONE:

I welcome all level saxophone players. I help my students with sound development, technique, repertoire, improvisation, building an efficient practice routine, college audition prep, artist development, etc. Thanks to my experience, I can help you build confidence with your instrument and yourself. Usually, I start my lessons with some warm-up, sound, technique, repertoire, and other exercises in order to increase your musicianship and creativity.

GENERAL MUSIC LESSONS:

I help beginner and intermediate students to learn the basics of music theory. We can work on contemporary/tonal harmony, ear training, basic keyboard, arrangement, transcriptions, jazz history, and basics of music production such as how to record yourself and learning how to use DAWs (Logic ProX, Ableton Live)

SPANISH:

With my Spanish students, I focus on how to improve your speaking skills, grammar, listening, and writing.  As a Spanish native speaker from Mexico City, I like to help my students by building the necessary confidence to start speaking and understanding Spanish as soon as possible.

I’ll be happy to be your guide and help you reach your goals.
