Patrick Rutland

I have studied with many of the leading teachers in Europe and the USA. I started my education at Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music (London), where I studied with James Sleigh for  five years. As a teenager, I was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, and the National Youth Strings Academy.

I was awarded a Bachelor from the Royal College of Music (London), where I studied with Andriy Viytovych. I have a Masters of Music from Trinity Laban College of Music and Dance (London), studying under Roger Chase, and a Masters in Fine Art from Gothenburg University (Sweden) with Øvyor Volle (Vertavo Quartet). I also studied in the USA at the Manhattan School of Music (New York) with Patinka Kopec, and the Chicago College of Performing Arts with Roger Chase.

I work as a professional viola player across the UK and Scandinavia, with such orchestras as Bergen, Norwegian Radio, Gothenburg Symphony, Norrkoping Symphony, Jonkoping Sinfonietta, Aarhus Symphony, and English National Ballet Philharmonic.

I sell my own transcriptions and arrangements for solo and chamber groups internationally on score exchange.

I specialise in violin and viola lessons for ABRSM exams. I have been teaching for 10 years, and since 2016 I have also taught over Skype. My students have had many successful results for ABRSM exams, high school scholarship auditions and local music festival competitions. I have been teaching theory grades 1-5 for 3 years, with some students achieving distinction level results. I teach internationally via skype with students in the UK, Denmark, Sweden, and the USA.

Through my high level of teaching, you child will be taught how to pass the exams to the very best of their capability, with focus on the technique of the instrument, and how to perform. I have previously taught in Hill House International School, and Hampden Gurney (London).
