Hi there!
Thanks for visiting my profile :)
I am a professional drummer and drum teacher from France. I've been teaching the drums for more than 10 years (teens and adults), and started playing more than 20 years ago.
It is with my French website Batteur Sans Limite that I gained national attention, thanks to my online tutorials and interviews of some of the best French drummers (Mario Duplantier from Gojira, Loïc Maurin from M83 or Jérôme Castry who played with Alpha Blondy to cite just a few). I absolutely loved to meet these drummers (having a podcast is a great excuse to reach out to your heroes!) and learned a ton through dozens of interviews. Their experience has definitely helped me as a drummer and as a teacher.
Your goals define our lessons. Whether you have an audition coming up, you need help with a specific technique or you just need to learn the fundamentals, I'll tailor the lessons to your needs! Music genres I teach include mainly pop, funk, country, electro, rock and metal (including double bass drumming).
Communication is key. I'll always make sure we are on the same page, that I understand correctly what your goals are, and that my teaching style suits you. We'll often talk about what you are listening to, and I'll make sure to suggest bands and artists that might inspire you. And I definitely understand that starting an instrument or just playing in front of someone else can be intimidating. I'll make sure that you feel at ease and that you don't fear making mistakes ;)
You'll also learn a lot about how to practice. For example:
- how to hold your sticks
- how to correctly strike a drum
- what sound you should aim for
- how to be more efficient in your routines so that you have results faster and avoid frustration
Knowing what to practice is key, but knowing how to practice is just as important.
Music genre
Also, I film myself a lot and created my own studio where I can record myself. So I’ll be able to give you advice if you want to create videos and record yourself ;)
And if you need a quick video to show you an exercise between two lessons, that's definitely possible.
Regarding my availability: I am definitely willing to accommodate days/times to your preference if needed. Feel free to message me!
If you don't have a drum set yet, I created a guide with suggestions of drum kits/cymbals/hardware/sticks for beginners. You'll find it as a PDF in the Credentials section.
Teaching Style
Discover what I call the Minimalist Method.
I help drummers achieve results faster and always know what to work on next. It means we'll create together the learning path that is tailored to your goals, with a practice focused on exercises you'll use in a musical context.
To make sure my students improve quickly and stay motivated, I use (free) online tools that are simple and can drastically improve your practice.
These include:
- Practice journal
- A lesson summary I'll send you after every lesson so that you always know where you're at
- Google Drive to share printable PDFs of the exercises, videos, songs etc.
It means that with the 1st lesson you’ll already know exactly what to practice.
I'll also ask you a lot of questions regarding what you listen to and what artists you love to get to know you better and understand what would work best for you.
Also, my studio is equipped with a HD camera and drum microphones.
It means both audio & video will be HD and super clear.
Curriculum
I really try to tailor the lessons to each student as much as possible. It means that we won't follow the exercises of a book until we've completed the entire book.
I create exercises for my students and will send you the PDFs. So you won’t have to buy any book or method. I share the material on a case-by-case basis. You'll have your own Google Drive folder with the material you need, so that you can easily find everything in one place.
That being said, there are some great methods out there and if you want to use one I'd be happy to do so. I often use Groove Essentials (Tommy Igoe) for instance. If needed, I will suggest books specific to your needs and interests.
