Teaching Style
I have played violin since I was 6 years old then transitioned to viola at the age of 10. I grew up in a musical family and performed regularly as a soloist and in ensembles with my siblings and friends in music competitions, weddings, social engagements. In middle school and high school I placed in the top 3 chairs every year for All Region Orchestra and also made it to All State Orcehstra my senior year. I also competed at the state level of UIL solo and ensemble every year of high school and achieved superior ratings 3 of those years. I attended Baylor University where I majored in music education with an emphasis in viola. While pursuing my degree I gained experience teaching private violin and viola students. I also tuaght group classes with the Baylor Universtiy Strings Project from 2007-2009. After graduating college I taught for 5 years as a full time orchestra director in the public schools to grades 5-12. Throughout those 5 years I also had a studio of 11 private students on the side through the Universtiy of Mary-Hardin Baylor Conservatory of Music. After becoming a mother I transitioned to only teaching private students part time. I taught at Academie Musique of Central Tx from 2016-2022. This program is a non-profit music school that offers scholarships for music lessons to students who cannot afford it. I have also taught beginning Suzuki violin group classes at Academie Musique and have co-directed the annual Summer Strings Camp. During the beginning of Covid I gained experience teaching private lessos online through Zoom. I teach mostly classeical style based on the Suzuki method as I have certifications in Every Child Can and Suzuki Violin Book 1. However, I feel it is best to take a teaching approach based on each student's individual learning style and needs and adapt my teaching style to those needs if necessary. I have also taught beginning fiddle to students who show interest in that style of playing.
