About

Christine Breeden is a Chicago-based bassoonist and contrabassoonist active in performance, education, administration, and advocacy. She is Second Bassoon with the Great Falls Symphony in Great Falls, Montana, and she teaches private lessons while freelancing throughout Illinois and Michigan. Later in 2025, she will be joining the Civic Orchestra of Chicago as an Associate Member for the 2025-26 season. She also holds a position as Instructor of Bassoon at South Suburban College in South Holland, IL, and serves as the Executive Assistant of the International Double Reed Society.

Christine holds interest in the evolving role of classical music in the modern sphere.  She is committed to equity and inclusion in the arts, and is a champion of contemporary and historically excluded composers.  Because of the ways in which music shapes lives and empowers people of all ages and abilities, Christine is eager to share the joy the bassoon has to offer.

Teaching Style

I believe that we are all lifelong students.  Music is one of many ways we enhance our creativity, self awareness, problem-solving, emotional expression, perseverance, and cultural awareness.  My role as a teacher is to help all students develop their skills in these areas, so that they will become their own teacher as they progress in music and in life.  I always encourage students to ask questions, make mistakes, and freely express themselves!  I teach bassoonists of any age and level of experience.
