Gabrielle Whitten
About
I am a music lover and enthusiast that wants to share the joy of music with my students!! I work with people from all walks of life and whether you can commit to sessions once a week or even just once a month I am sure we will have lots of fun!
Students will learn how to read music, how to hold and care for the violin properly, and how to play and construct basic scales, among other techniques and skills. I have played with the Meredith College Sinfonietta and a traditional Celtic folk group and even had the opportunity to play in a wedding ceremony. I am currently playing in the Short Pump string orchestra.
My lessons cater to the hobbyist wanting to learn music for fun and enjoyment at almost any age. As a mom, I understand that things may change in our lives so I am fully understanding and will never turn a student away due to lack of practice. I am here to help students have fun while learning and that can happen at any moment!
Fun Fact: I have 15+ years of teaching experience through martial arts as I started teaching classes when I was 9 years old and my parents used to own a gym!
I hope we get to work together and feel free to ask me questions!!
Teaching Style
Gabi has been teaching violin for six years, working with students ranging in age from 3 to 70 years old, both in-person and through online lessons, focusing on beginners. Gabi holds a minor degree in music from NC State University. While her primary degrees are in Biological and Nursing Sciences, Gabi’s love of music has remained a constant part of her life.
She is an active member of the Short Pump Symphony in Virginia and has had the privilege to participate in two events organized by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, she has performed with the Meredith College Sinfonietta and the Highlanders, a local Folk/Dance group located in Raleigh, NC.
Students can expect to learn in a low-pressure and nurturing learning environment. As Gabi’s welcoming and adaptable teaching style creates a space where all students can feel a sense of belonging and are encouraged to explore their love of music!
Curriculum
Starting, students do not necessarily need to have a workbook. However, if you find having one will help keep things consistent, I highly recommend the Essential Elements Violin Book One!
