About

Mandi has been a performer since the age of four. Playing the violin since the age of 9 and the viola since the age of 13, she is passionate about empowering others to play music. She is currently principal violist in the Anderson Symphony Orchestra and the Toccoa Symphony Orchestra, and long-time violist in the GLOW Lyric Opera orchestra. She also performs for local church services when the need arises.

Mandi's favorite instrument is the viola, with the violin being a close second. She also enjoys playing the piano, guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo, and autoharp. While her primary experiences have been in classical music, she has branched out and is currently studying Irish fiddle and traditional American folk music, and enjoys encouraging her students to experiment in new genres.

Teaching Style

Mandi's most difficult part of learning an instrument was knowing what to practice when. To alleviate those stressors with students, Mandi teaches in a very specific, task-oriented style. Each practice assignment is given in a task-list style, with a clear desired outcome for the next lesson. She understands that learning new things is hard work, but she makes every effort to make the learning fun, as well.

Curriculum

Most students begin with the Suzuki Method for fundamentals (basic scales and exercises) and repertoire. Scales and etudes are added at an advanced level. Since every student is different, and everyone has different learning goals, the curriculum can be modified based on the goals of the student.
