About

Hello, I’m Paolo, a consultant and musical director at the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation since 2007. I'm a teacher and Deputy Director at the 'Vecchi-Tonelli' Conservatory in Modena since 2004, where I personally mentor students from all over the world.

I have been working as a pianist-coach for Italian opera since 1996, when I attended the two-year specialization program for collaborative pianists at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
I’m from Modena, and I’ve had the fortune of collaborating with some of the greatest interpreters of the Italian operatic tradition (Luciano Pavarotti, Mirella Freni, and Raina Kabaivanska since 2004).

I have worked with the Fondazione Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Dance School of the Teatro alla Scala, the Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Fondazione Teatro Lirico 'G. Verdi' in Trieste, the Fondazione Arena and Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, the Fondazione Teatro di Ferrara, the Fondazione Toscanini in Parma, the Teatro Comunale in Ravenna, and the Fondazione Teatro Comunale in Modena. I have actively participated in the staging of around eighty operatic and dance titles and have worked with the most important directors and conductors in the international scene.

I have performed more than 800 concerts as a pianist for opera recitals, lieder, and chamber music, as a choir conductor, instrumental ensemble director, and, to further enhance and complete my personal skills, as an orchestra conductor.

In 2004, I began collaborating with Maestro Luciano Pavarotti, accompanying his lessons to his beloved students on the piano until just days before his passing in 2007. Since then, through the Pavarotti Foundation, I continue my research, training, and promotion of young opera singers, creating and participating in various events in international locations such as New York, Lucerne, Zurich, Beijing, Istanbul, Turku, Munich, Jakarta, Bucharest, Muscat, Jeddah, Busan, Tokyo, and also at the prestigious Casa Museo, the last residence of Maestro Luciano Pavarotti, where I curate a summer concert series.

Teaching Style

I specialize in teaching Italian bel canto, with particular attention to performance traditions, correct diction of librettos, how to make the singing expressive, how to pronounce correctly without losing support, and with great focus on phrasing and the so-called 'singing on the breath,' which is essential for anyone who wants to sing Italian opera.
I’m happy to assist anyone, especially those preparing for a stay in Italy, who wish to refine their interpretation of Italian opera.
