About

I am a freelance illustrator with a passion for coaching students to excel in their field. After spending my life in India, I was the first woman from my family who left on her own in order to establish themselves abroad. At 22 years old I completed my masters in graphic design in the UK, after which I decided to stay and work here. My current focus in life is to learn and gain experience as an artist, in order to one day build something of my own. So far I have managed to acquire the following skills in visual, verbal and written communication:

Freelancing

I did part time freelancing as a graphic designer while I was doing my bachelors in India. I worked with companies, shops and individuals to make logos, testimonials, websites and illustrations. I even had my own handmade craft stall at an exhibition where I sold my handmade diaries, postcards, bags and gift boxes. I also designed a section for a wedding and designed some social media platforms.

Photography

I was the media photo-journalist at IFFI (International Film Festival of India) media. This is a huge festival in India where the biggest Bollywood stars and international celebrities are invited for interviews, awards and performances. As a junior photo-journalist, I assisted the senior media groups.

Film-making

I was part of the 20 member team that made the Honda motorbike commercial in Goa, where I was also featured in the 2 minute television advert itself. It was seen both on TV and in movie theatres for a couple of months in 2016, and through this I learned quite a lot about pre-production and production. My final project was also a video-editing project, where I also made a solo short dil and did all the pre-production, production and post-production.

Illustration and animation

I have been learning graphic design for 6 years, achieving a Merit in my masters. I was one of the youngest in my course and year. I competed with all the masters’ students from different majors to get my Hearst magazine internship in the UK, where only 6 of us were selected and I worked for the video production head in the company and learned a lot about post-production. My favourite part of graphic design is the illustrations, for which I use my skills with adobe creative suite, final cut pro and procreate, but I also enjoy making animations.

Mixed visual media

As someone who loves being creative and thinking laterally, I love to experiment with different media and think out of the box. I have always been the odd one out in terms of selection of media and subjects for my projects. I have used my experience in almost all media (photography, film-making, illustration and animation) and combined them in my projects. I make the most of every topic in order to maximise creativity, my designs are always well researched and my ideation processes are always appreciated by the audience. I like making thumbnails of my final work which always helps me in strengthening my base.

Verbal communication

Despite being a visual communication graduate, I am also confident with verbal communication. I have participated in many vocal events and have been chosen for all the interviews during my course. For my Hearst interview and graduate show, I was chosen to be there in the video to be published on YouTube. I am also excellent with languages, being TEFL certified in English and knowing Hindi, Marathi and Kannada fluently, and also Sanskrit and French to a high level. I have used this ability to teach languages to art students from many different places in their native language for the last 5 years. I have also taught in a primary school for 6 months, with a special focus on design.

Written communication

In addition to visual and verbal communication, I have made sure that my written communication is on par. I have published a short story on kindle and have written articles for newspapers and magazines in India since I was young. When I shot a video for our annual show, I wrote my script and made it into a visual script. It was so good that I was able to take it to the next level, making thumbnails for my shots and acting as each character. For the show I made a short introduction, shot most of the things and was the videographer and editor.

Conclusion

Visual, verbal and written communication are my passion. However, I also know how to receive communication from my teammates. I have collaborated with groups and individuals for several fashion and design events. My colleagues in any task or event always give me positive responses. I have also been a team leader in my University projects and other International participations as well throughout my school and career. Teamwork is not only fun but gets the job done quicker and better. I hope that we can work together and continue growing as artists!
