Anthony Milan
About
Hello! I'm Anthony, a passionate music educator and professional musician. I graduated from Belmont University in 2017 with a degree in Vocal Performance and Composition and Arranging. Since then, I've worked professionally as a musician and teacher; releasing music on streaming services (under the name Anthony J Milan), performing at local festivals in Nashville (Boro Fondo 2022), producing music for a number of artists (namely Sarah Espen, Maarten, and Matt Sperrazza), working as a remote session vocalist (on Fiverr, Upwork, Soundbetter, and Freelancer), and teaching both remotely and in-person (with Sam Ash, Mobile Music, and Superba Vox).
I offer a wide range of music lessons, including voice, ukulele, music theory, songwriting, composition, and more, to students of all ages. I believe that music is a lifelong journey, and it's never too late to start or continue your musical education.
My teaching philosophy centers on the idea that learning should be both enjoyable and challenging. I strive to create an environment where students feel excited to learn new skills and are encouraged to push their boundaries. I understand that learning can be both exhilarating and difficult, and both are essential parts of the process.
I am dedicated to meeting my students where they are, understanding their individual goals, and helping them achieve those goals. Whether you're looking to improve your vocal technique, master the ukulele, deepen your understanding of music theory, or compose your own music, I am here to guide and support you every step of the way.
Let's embark on this musical journey together and make learning music a fulfilling and inspiring experience!
Teaching Style
When starting with a new student, my first step is to understand their musical background, current level, and aspirations. Whether you want to enjoy singing along with the radio, impress your friends at karaoke, or pursue a career as a professional musician, I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs and goals.
I always begin with a conversation to understand you better and to outline what it will take to achieve your goals. My commitment is to do everything in my power to help you reach your objectives while ensuring that you enjoy the learning process. Ultimately, it's up to you to put in the work and focus needed to follow the path we set together.
I strive to create a supportive and nurturing environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and taking risks. I understand that learning new skills can be intimidating, so I offer plenty of encouragement and positive reinforcement. My goal is to build confidence and help students find joy in their musical journey.
Learning music should be enjoyable yet challenging. I encourage students to explore new musical styles, experiment with different techniques, and challenge themselves to reach new heights. Celebrating small victories along the way keeps the process rewarding and motivating.
In a normal lesson, I expect you to come in warmed up (if applicable) and ready to learn. If the lesson is performance oriented, we will have picked out repertoire that fits your goals while challenging your technique. We will then use your repertoire and various exercises to stretch your ability and develop new tools so that you can continue to grow on your own.
If the lesson is geared towards composition or music theory, we will focus on your musical understanding. Like math, music builds upon itself become more complex and allows more options the further you go. When analyzing or writing music, you learn how to understand basic rhythms, melodies, and harmonies before you can begin to learn the thousands of exceptions to the rules you learned.
By fostering a supportive and motivating environment, I aim to make your musical journey both rewarding and enjoyable. Let's work together to unlock your full potential and make your musical dreams a reality!
