Grant was terrific, and easy, friendly for our first lesson. My son was comfortable and attuned to Grant's ideas and instruction. I think Grant's teaching method and perspective on music and the trombone is effective. W look forward to more sessions. ~Pete
Our son has been enjoying lessons with Grant. He has learned a lot in a short time and looks forward to lessons. We are glad to have met Grant!
I now have a better idea of the steps I need to take to begin seeing improvement!
Grant is an amazing musician. From the 2 years I’ve worked with him, he’s been very professional, great to work with and always plays with a beautiful tone. He is very passionate and knowledgable in both playing the trombone and the music he plays.
Grant's ability to hear what each student's needs are makes him a great teacher for all levels of players. He likes to work hard while also having a good time, which really resonates with students. We worked together for 2 years and his drive to constantly make the highest quality music really makes him stand out.
Very knowledgeable and experienced musician. Highly skilled in both teaching and performance aspects of trombone. Teaching and instruction is tailored to each student's individual skill set and need. I highly recommend...
Grant was helpful and analytical in his approach to teaching. I would consult him again. He's also a nice guy.
Grant Reed has the right combination in his approach to teaching: patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and motivate. He has had extensive training. He also has a lot of teaching and performing experience. Grant knows what works! His manner is calm and empathetic.
Grant has been an excellent instructor for my son who is just finishing his first year learning trombone. Grant is patient and really cares about his student’s progress. I feel my son is more engaged and enthusiastic about playing trombone under Grant’s tutorage. Highly recommend.
My son needed some extra help with trombone. He was struggling in his school program and wanted to be better. After studying with Grant for a few months, his band teacher sent me an email about how quickly he is improving and he moved up from last chair to third chair. He is very approchable and my son loves him.
Teaching Style
Music is one of the most incredibly powerful and moving things in the entire world, and above all, I wish for students to enjoy playing and experiencing this wonderful gift. The trombone is merely a means to an end in this regard; yet its rich, powerful, and versatile sound is what particularly draws me to it. My fundamental approach to playing is simple: producing the greatest sound on every note, as easily as possible. I think it is necessary to have the greatest sound that you can possibly make on the trombone in ones head from the very beginning, and to this end, I strive to play as much as possible for and along with students so that they may develop their own ideal sound concept. I couple this with instruction on all the other fundamentals of playing and music making such as scales, rhythms, intonation, and proper breathing. But never forget that the goal is to play music with and for others, and that making a statement with the music we play, in a way expressing our deepest emotions, is what this is truly about.
