Laura Ellison
About
Hi! My name is Laura Ellison. I am a professional violinist with 20+ years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels. I have a Bachelor Degree and a Master Degree in Violin Performance from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC where I studied with Robert Gerle. I have performed with many symphony orchestras in the DC area including Alexandria Symphony, Annapolis Symphony, Maryland Symphony, Mid-Atlantic Symphony, National Chamber/Philharmonic Orchestra, National Gallery of Art Orchestra, among others. I have also studied abroad at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. I enjoy teaching and have an extensive background as an educator. I have taught orchestra in public and private schools, as well as on the university level as a violin instructor, chamber music coach, and string pedagogy instructor. I also have a thorough background in Music Theory.
Teaching Style
I incorporate the technical and musical aspects of music in my teaching style. I enjoy creating individualized practice plans for each of my students so they may work towards their musical goals and aspirations. I analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each student and take into consideration their background and experience. I am very supportive as well as encouraging, enthusiastic and motivating towards my students. I give 100% to each student and look forward to seeing the success and happiness that results in their efforts.
Curriculum
I specialize in the Suzuki Method (for younger students particularly those who do not read music), as well as a traditional classical method for older, more experienced students. The students will be evaluated and advised which method will be used. There may be a combination of both methods as well.
