About
About Thomas Evans
With over 15 years of experience as a dedicated piano instructor, I help students of all ages and skill levels achieve their musical goals. I studied under respected musicians including Dr. Mira Frisch, Gail Schroeder, and Janis Nilsen, whose mentorship helped shape both my musicianship and teaching philosophy.
Alongside teaching, I have performed with orchestras, theater productions, and special events, bringing real-world musical experience into my lessons. These experiences allow me to help students understand not only how to play the piano, but how music works in performance settings.
My teaching focuses on building a strong musical foundation through technique, theory, and creative expression. I enjoy working with beginners and intermediate students, guiding them step by step so they can grow confidently and enjoy the learning process.
Every student learns differently, so I tailor lessons to each individual’s goals, pace, and musical interests. My aim is to make piano accessible, rewarding, and fun while helping students develop skills that last a lifetime.
Teaching Style
Teaching Style
I believe learning piano should be an inspiring and rewarding experience. My goal is to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable exploring their musical potential.
While I emphasize building a strong technical foundation, I also focus on developing musicality, creativity, and expression. Lessons are student-centered, meaning I adapt each session to the student’s individual pace, goals, and musical interests.
Encouragement and positivity are central to my teaching approach. I want every student to feel confident, motivated, and excited about their progress while enjoying the journey of learning music.
Curriculum
Teaching Method
I primarily use the Piano Adventures and Adult Piano Adventures series in my lessons. These well-structured methods provide a progressive and engaging approach to learning piano, covering essential skills such as reading music, rhythm, technique, and musical expression.
For younger students, the Piano Adventures series incorporates interactive and creative elements that make lessons enjoyable while building a strong musical foundation. Adult students benefit from the focused and thoughtfully designed structure of Adult Piano Adventures, which allows them to progress efficiently while developing confidence at the piano.
Both methods integrate technique, theory, and creativity, helping students grow not only as pianists but as well-rounded musicians. I also supplement these books with additional exercises, repertoire, and personalized materials tailored to each student’s goals, interests, and progress.
