About

My name is Eòghainn Beaton and I’m a professional traditional musician from the Isle of Skye now currently living in Glasgow. I have just graduated from the traditional music course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I studied Bodhran and Bagpipes.

My love of traditional music started from a young age when I was growing up on the Isle of Skye where I was surrounded by traditional music and Gaidhlig song and language. Id love to share my knowledge of Scottish music and culture with anyone!

Some of my musical highlights include; performing and recording music in Scotland and abroad with my band Falasgair, recording with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in collaboration with composer Rachael Portman, providing Bodhran to a track called The Blacksmith by Lady Moon and I have also toured playing Bodhran with an Irish dance show called Rhythm of the Dance.

I am also a very experienced bag piper and snare drummer and offer lessons for those too. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions.

Teaching Style

In Person and online lessons are available. in person lessons are taught in Glasgow, Scotland. I believe in learning a strong foundation on your instrument but mainly that music should be fun to learn! I am a fairly relaxed teacher, who wants you to find joy from music but also belive heavily on musical exercises for technique to improve playing.

I understand the difficulties of online lessons. Because of this I have created lots of resources to compliment these online sessions such as high quality video tutorials and written guides which include photos and transcripts.

I can also provide bagpipe tracks of me playing for you to play along to with tailored bodhran parts written to your personal goals. In person lessons will also receive this, but we can also jam it out together!

Curriculum

My lessons center around the sessions themselves. But I have made tutorial videos and written guides to accompany my own learning resources. Sheet music will be incorporated, but i do also believe in a 'learning by ear' style as folk and traditional playing is an oral tradition. This means do not have to be well versed in musical theory to have lessons with me, I can show you anything you need from that side of things.
