Jefimija Šipka
About
I am Jefimija Šipka, an accomplished bassoonist, educator, and performer My passion for music started at a young age, and over the years, I have had the privilege of earning numerous awards and accolades, including two-time Laureate award at the "Davorin Jenko" International Competition, multiple Vidovdanska certificates of appreciation, and recognition for my achievements in music.
Throughout my career, I have had the honor of performing with esteemed orchestras, including the Sarajevo Philharmonic, the youth symphony orchestra "Triorca," and the world symphony orchestra "Spes Mundi," where I was recognized for my artistry and musical contributions.
I graduated from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, where I earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music Performance with a specialization in Wind Instruments (Bassoon), studying under the guidance of Professor Nenad Janković. Throughout my education, I have had the opportunity to participate in numerous masterclasses, working with renowned bassoonists like Alexandre Silvério, Giorgio Mandolesi and pianist Natasha Šarčević.
In addition to my performance career, I am deeply passionate about music education. I have worked as a part-time professor at the "Isidor Bajić" music school in Novi Sad, where I substituted for regular professors and had the opportunity to teach students and help them grow musically. Currently, I was a member of the Serbian National Theater, performing as the second bassoonist in their orchestra.
Teaching Style
I specialize in bassoon and bassoon reed making, instruction for all skill levels, focusing on foundational techniques, advanced repertoire, and audition preparation. My lessons are tailored to each student’s goals, whether they are beginners exploring the instrument, advanced players refining their skills, or hobbyists seeking to enjoy music in a relaxed setting. With years of experience and a personalized teaching approach, I strive to make each lesson engaging and rewarding.
My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that music education should be inspiring, accessible, and nurturing. I strive to create a learning environment where students feel empowered to explore their full musical potential and develop a deep appreciation for the artistry behind the bassoon.
I take a highly personalized approach to teaching, recognizing that each student has a unique learning style, and I adjust my lessons to suit their individual goals and interests. Whether I’m working with beginners or advanced students, I focus on building a strong technical foundation while also encouraging creativity and artistic expression. For me, learning an instrument should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I work to make each lesson engaging, meaningful, and motivating, ensuring that students feel confident and inspired to reach their musical goals.
I emphasize the development of both the technical proficiency needed to master the bassoon and the musicality that enables students to express themselves fully in their performances.
Also, I encourage students to explore the emotional and artistic dimensions of music, guiding them to form a deeper connection with the pieces they play, committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them, knowing that this process is essential for growth. I introduce students to a wide range of musical genres, from classical to contemporary, ensuring they develop a versatile skill set and an appreciation for diverse musical styles.
Recognizing the importance of performance in a musician’s development, I actively encourage students to engage in group lessons, duets, and public performances, providing opportunities for them to grow both as musicians and as confident performers.
Additionally, I am passionate about fostering a love for music in audiences. With my interest in visual arts and education, I engage with children in schools and kindergartens, introducing them to the magic of sound and music, and helping them cultivate creativity and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
My teaching goes beyond simply playing the bassoon; it’s about helping students become well-rounded musicians who are confident in their abilities, passionate about their craft, and equipped with the skills to enjoy a lifetime of musical fulfillment.
Curriculum
My teaching method combines a structured yet flexible approach, tailored to the individual needs of each student. I prioritize developing strong technical foundations, but I also place great emphasis on fostering creativity and musical expression. Whether working with beginners or advanced students, my lessons are designed to build both skill and confidence.
I practice that in one lesson of 45 minutes, I start with playing through the scale and its parts (articulation, chords, intervals...), then I divide the main part of the lesson into a section of work on etudes, and a section of work on compositions (concert, sonata, chamber music , orchestral excerpt..), and I devote the last few minutes to a summary of the class, I give the student the opportunity to ask questions, doubts, questions related to practice, and with great I respond with attention and diligence and together we come to a solution.
