About
Hello!
My name is Helga and I am a professional cellist and cello teacher. I have obtained master's degree in both music performance (2017) and pedagogy (2019) from Geneva University of Music in Switzerland. For about 7 years now my main focus has been teaching cello to students with different backgrounds and of all ages, but I really enjoy playing orchestral and chamber music as well.
In 2013, while still studying in Riga to obtain my Bachelors degree, I started my cello - teaching journey in Ozolnieki music school in Latvia as cello and string ensemble teacher. In 2015 I moved to Switzerland for my master's program. During the time in Switzerland I had the opportunity to substitute teachers in a few music schools and got to wor with some first and second year students in the university as well. For about a year I worked with students of all ages in L'Ecole jurassienne et conservatoire de musique. Since then I have become a freelancer and I have to say that I love it.
As a cellist I have been part of different orchestras and ensembles such as Sinfonietta Riga (2020), Baltic Sea Philharmonic (2012 - 2019), Nordic Symphony orchestra (2019), Hiiumaa Homecoming festival chamber orchestra (2017) among others.
Teaching Style
I strongly believe that it is never too late to start learning something new and that includes playing this beautiful instrument called cello.
I have worked with students of all levels and I encourage everyone to at least try learning this instrument if that is something one wishes to do.
Before starting our lessons together it would be important for me to know :
- do you have an instrument at home?
- do you have any previous musical experience?
- can you read music already?
Curriculum
Every student has different needs and ,taking that into account, I choose the books and exercises that would best suit the student. After receiving answers to my questions about your previous experience and further goals, I will create a program and lesson plan that is adjusted to your needs!
