Teaching Style
I have taught clawhammer banjo since 2012, mountain dulcimer since 2018, and 2 finger banjo since 2020. I've had students in home, online, and at local music shops.
Teaching events include - Central Florida Dulcimer Festival, Dulcimoon Festival, Kentucky Music Week, Folkcraft Instruments One Day Workshops, QDF Summerfest, QDF Fallfest, Hymnfest, Homeschool kids dulcimer class. I also teach multi-week and one day zoom events in my home studio.
Performances include - all the above festivals and teaching events, Black Mountian Music Festival, each Sunday in church, and with a 4 piece group - in local community centers and nursing homes, and morningsong at the JCCFS.
I enjoy teaching mostly banjo and mountain dulcimer but I also play other instruments. Styles and methods taught -
• Clawhammer Banjo - Old-Time, Gospel, Folk
• Mountain Dulcimer - diatonic (no extra frets), standard, and chromatic. Including flat-picking, melody string strumming, backup and more. Old-Time, Gospel, Folk
• 2 Finger Thumb Lead Banjo - Old-Time, Gospel, Folk
I believe in a non-competitive environment so I have not competed in any music competitions. Each player is unique and brings their own style into their playing, so I do my best to help students find their own style.
My preferred method of teaching is by ear, but for time sensitive events I will use tablature.
Curriculum
By ear or tablature.
