Oscar Alejandro Parada Suárez
About
I am a guitarist, composer, and educator with a career dedicated to performance, teaching, and musical creation. My academic background includes studies at Universidad El Bosque and a Master’s degree in Composition from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Throughout my career, I have worked in various areas of the musical field. As an educator, I have designed pedagogical methodologies and teaching materials for music instruction in different institutions. I have also served as a jury member in calls for proposals by the Ministry of Cultures and the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, evaluating artistic projects from both technical and creative perspectives.
In the performance field, I have explored the hybrid guitar, an innovative instrument in the country that combines guitar and bass, expanding its expressive and sonic possibilities. As a composer, my works seek to transcend the boundaries of traditional genres, using music as a medium to convey ideas and emotions in various formats, from jazz ensembles to compositions for audiovisual media. In 2021, I won the Young Composers Competition by Banco de la República with my piece (Cero)Tonina, which allowed me to share my work with a wider audience and further establish my career in composition.
