About

Hi, I’m Lauren, a passionate actor and drama facilitator based in Mumbai, India. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Acting and Theatre-making from Drama School Mumbai, where I honed my skills in acting techniques, movement, voice, and improvisation. Over the years, I’ve worked as an actor in both stage and screen productions, including popular shows like "Rana Naidu" and "Mismatched" on Netflix. My acting journey has also led me to teach and facilitate workshops for aspiring actors and students of all ages, where I’ve found joy in sharing my knowledge and guiding others in their creative expression.

My approach to teaching acting is built on the belief that acting is not just about performing - it’s about self-discovery, connecting with others, and expressing what lies deep within. I strive to create a supportive, safe, and collaborative environment where you can explore your unique voice, develop your character-building skills, and gain confidence on stage or in front of the camera.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is dynamic, hands-on, and student-centered. I believe that acting is a journey of self-discovery, and my goal is to help you find your unique voice while developing essential acting skills. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned actor, I tailor each lesson to meet your specific needs, focusing on building confidence, creativity, and emotional depth.

Key elements of my teaching style include:

  • Interactive Learning: I encourage active participation through role play, improvisation exercises, and scene work. This hands-on approach helps you internalize techniques and express yourself authentically.

  • Playful and Safe Environment: I create a supportive, playful space where you can explore new characters, experiment with different emotions, and step out of your comfort zone. We learn by playing, and I believe that mistakes are simply opportunities for growth.

  • Focused on Practical Application: I incorporate real-life acting situations, from audition techniques to stage performances, so you can immediately apply what you’ve learned in practical scenarios.

  • Individual Attention: Each student is unique, so I make sure to address your specific strengths, challenges, and goals. We work together to develop your personal acting style and refine the skills that will help you succeed on stage or screen.

My approach combines a mix of technique-building with creative exploration, ensuring that you not only develop technical proficiency but also discover the emotional depth needed for powerful, authentic performances.

Curriculum

My teaching method is designed to be engaging, immersive, and versatile, ensuring that each student’s individual needs and learning style are met. I draw on practical acting techniques combined with creative exercises to help you understand and internalize acting concepts.

Key elements of my method include:

  • Physical and Emotional Exploration: I encourage students to connect with their physicality and emotions, as both are key to creating believable performances. We explore movement exercises, voice work, and emotion-based improvisations to unlock a deeper understanding of characters and scenes.

  • Scene Study and Role Play: We dive into scene study where we analyze text, dissect characters’ objectives, and rehearse scenes together. Role play helps students embody different characters and navigate emotional depth.

  • Improvisation: Improvisation is a crucial part of my method, as it encourages spontaneity, creativity, and adaptability. We often incorporate improv games to improve your confidence, listening skills, and ability to think on your feet.

  • Text Analysis and Monologue Work: I guide students through analyzing monologues, understanding the subtext, and creating strong, believable choices. I also help with audition preparation, focusing on delivering monologues with conviction and authenticity.

  • Feedback and Reflection: I offer constructive feedback in a supportive and encouraging manner. My aim is to build your confidence, so you can continue to grow as an actor.

Recommended Student Texts

I believe in using a variety of texts to expand your acting range and deepen your understanding of characters. Here are some recommended texts and plays that we may explore in class:

  • "Respect for Acting" by Uta Hagen: This book provides essential foundational techniques and exercises that all actors can benefit from.

  • Monologues and Scenes from Classic and Contemporary Plays: We’ll work with well-known texts like Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” (for classical work) and modern plays like “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams or “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller to explore both traditional and contemporary acting approaches.

  • "An Actor Prepares" by Konstantin Stanislavski: A classic text that introduces the famous Stanislavski system, which is fundamental to creating a well-rounded, emotionally honest performance. We’ll dive into this to understand the process of character creation.

  • Contemporary Monologues: We’ll explore modern monologues and scenes from popular TV shows and films, allowing you to apply acting techniques in real-world contexts. This will help you prepare for auditions and performances in the entertainment industry.

  • Improv Texts (e.g., “Improvisation for the Theater” by Viola Spolin): This text provides a foundation in improvisation, which we will incorporate into our lessons to develop spontaneity and creativity.

  • Character Development Resources: In some lessons, I may suggest character creation exercises or texts that explore psychological depth and motivation, such as "The Art of Acting" by Stanislavski or "True and False" by David Mamet.

By combining these texts with practical exercises, role-playing, and scene studies, my aim is to help you grow both as a performer and a confident storyteller. Whether you’re preparing for auditions or working on your craft for fun, these resources will serve as both guides and challenges to help you deepen your understanding of acting.
