About

Hi! My name is James Halkias, and I’m a college student offering private piano lessons for kids and beginners. The summer is the perfect time to see if your kid is interested! I’ve taught for over 4 years at a local music academy and volunteered with music programs at inner-city schools and have offered private lessons for multiple clients. I specialize in making music fun, especially for new learners!

Teaching Style

My testimonials say it all:

James is very knowledgeable about playing piano and music theory. He plans thoughtful and engaging lessons that make learning piano fun for young children. My son truly enjoys going to each lesson and has learned so much

“James has developed an excellent rapport with all of his students, and members look forward to their lessons with him. He conducts all lessons with empathy and compassion, helping students navigate the frustrations of learning a new instrument with patience and understanding.”

Curriculum

I believe the most important thing is making sure your student wantsto learn. I use the following sequence of books: Piano Adventures Primer, and then transition to Piano Pronto

Credentials & Affiliations

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in the Lynch school of education at Boston College (expected May 2027).

I have taught private and group piano lessons since 2022, both independently and through Bravo Music Academy. There, I developed individualized lesson plans for students of different ages and experience levels. In my role as Program Lead for Boston College’s Music Outreach Program (2024–Present), I coordinate logistics and mentor other volunteers while providing weekly piano instruction to students at an under-resourced public school. Additionally as a part of my service learning class, I volunteered at a Boys and Girls Club providing music lessons. My teaching emphasizes creativity, student confidence, and musical growth.

Professionally, I have extensive music experience as both a performer and administrator. I serve as Baritone Section Leader in the Boston College “Screaming Eagles” Marching Band and Trombone Section Leader in the university’s jazz ensemble, BC bOp!, where I lead sectionals, review recordings, and manage logistics. I also led a summer music camp as the sole instructor and coordinator. My performance background includes playing piano, trombone, and baritone in various ensembles, as well as participating in service-based music programs that increase access to the arts.
