About

I've been playing guitar for 35 years, performing with bands Street Milk and Lobo Hombre at venues throughout the Northeast, and previously with German punk rock band Non Conform. My musical journey has taken me from blues and classic rock foundations to the raw energy of punk, giving me a diverse perspective on guitar playing.
I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor lessons to your goals and learning style. Whether you want to strum campfire songs or shred metal solos, I'll meet you where you are and help you develop your own musical voice.
My lessons focus on practical playing skills that you can actually use. We'll cover essential techniques like chord progressions, power chords, strumming patterns, and basic music theory, but always in service of playing real songs. I teach both acoustic and electric guitar across genres including blues, classic rock, punk, and everything in between. You'll get personalized practice assignments and song recommendations based on what excites you most about guitar.
I learned my foundation through two winters of intensive lessons in the Hendrix/Zeppelin/blues tradition, then expanded my skills through decades of live performance and collaboration with other musicians. When I'm not teaching or playing, you'll find me strategizing over a chess board – I love games that require both creativity and tactical thinking, much like guitar playing itself.

Teaching Style

I use a balanced 50:50 approach that keeps lessons both challenging and enjoyable. Half of each lesson focuses on building your foundation – memorizing chord shapes, scales, proper technique, and the fundamentals that will make you a stronger player long-term. The other half is all about the fun stuff: applying what you've learned to actual songs, jamming, and creative expression.
This method ensures you're always progressing technically while never losing sight of why you picked up the guitar in the first place – to make music! You'll leave each lesson with new skills to practice AND something fun to play. Whether we're drilling chord transitions or rocking out to your favorite song, every minute serves a purpose in your musical development.
I've found this balance keeps students motivated and engaged. The "work" portion builds confidence and capability, while the "play" portion lets you hear your progress in action. It's like going to the gym and then playing your favorite sport – both elements make you better, and together they make the journey enjoyable.

Curriculum

I find the CAGED system useful, but it's not for everyone. Everyone's minds work differently and view the fretboard differently.
