In addition to her horn playing, Xin has an online studio comprising of students of all ages and experiences and was previously a volunteer teaching artist with the Baltimore Symphony’s OrchKids program, based on El Sistema, where she provided lessons and assisted with brass class and ensembles. Recently, she has rescued a former feral cat named Maestro.
Xin has recently graduated with a master of music degree from the Yale School of Music in 2023 under the tutelage of William Purvis and a bachelor of music degree from the Eastman School of Music in 2020 under Peter Kurau. Her other teachers include William VerMeulen, Maura McCune-Corvington and former New World Symphony Fellow Larry Williams.
Teaching Style
I tailor my teaching style to individual students, combining bits of their personal goals with what I think is best for their musical development. I don't believe a highly critical approach is helpful, and would prefer to work with the student to positively achieve their dreams while maintaining a high personal standard!
