Anish Raj Pandit
About
Hi everyone! My name is Anish. Formerly Principal Oboe for the Symphony Orchestra of India, I completed my undergraduate studies in Oboe Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (studying with former Metropolitan Opera oboist Linda Strommen), and my Master of Music from the New England Conservatory in Boston (where I studied with John Ferrillo, Principal Oboe of the Boston Symphony). I taught reed-making at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and was also an Instructor of Oboe and Music History at the Symphony Orchestra of India's Music Academy, while living in India post-Masters. I now have relocated back to the USA. I have performed in esteemed music festivals internationally, including the Pacific Music Festival in Japan (founded by Leonard Bernstein), the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado, and the Chautauqua Institution Festival Orchestra in New York, among countless others! This fall I'll perform in a south India tour with the Southeast Asian Symphony Orchestra.
Teaching Style
I believe in three foundational concepts for my students: to cultivate efficient tone production that emulates vocal technique/ singing (which is tied to reeds), to cultivate technical facility to serve the music, and to cultivate interpretive skills to be able to perform with artistic conviction.
Curriculum
I teach out of the Barret Oboe Method book traditionally with less advanced students as a foundation for musical interpretation and phrasing, but I love to venture into solo repertoire and orchestral excerpts with more advanced students.
