About

Hi, I'm Krishna - a violinist/composer (and data scientist) from South Africa! I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science as well as a Minor in Music from Temple University, Philadelphia, USA (graduated: December 2022). At Temple University, I was a Dean's Scholarship recipient and a member of the university's Honors Program.

Music and the violin are my core passions and I'm in love with a vast range of genres, from classical to jazz, pop, electronic, cultural and more! I come from a rigorous classical training and background, and I've had many enriching performance experiences. Some highlights include performing in chamber ensembles (duets, trios) at Temple University during 2018-2020, performing as a soloist with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra on two occasions in 2014, performing as an orchestra member at Temple University, as well as performing my arrangements/covers of popular songs as a solo violinist at weddings.

In 2014, I completed my Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) examinations in Violin Performance, having fulfilled both Grade 7 and Grade 8 in the same year, and I passed both exams with Distinction.

At Temple University, I completed the comprehensive Honors Music Theory sequence of courses (4 semesters) as well as a Music Theory Seminar course. I’m always intrigued by and excited about Music Theory, so if that’s a topic you need help with, I’d be glad to talk about that too!

Since 2018, I’ve taught and coached violin students via private lessons, both in-person and online, working with students primarily from the Northeast U.S. I also taught Music Theory to many students over four semesters while I worked for Temple University as a Music Theory Peer Tutor in the Boyer Peer Tutoring Program (2018-2020).

Most of my personal violin practice routine is dedicated to classical repertoire, but I also enjoy exploring genres like jazz, pop, and EDM through my covers, compositions and arrangements, which has been very exciting! I'd be very happy to share everything I've learned with you and to help you achieve your musical dreams and goals!

Teaching Style

I've taught many students who are new to the violin as well as many who've had years of training, and I always make sure that I prioritize your musical goals and find helpful ways to enrich your technique. I'm happy to help you learn pieces that you're excited to play, or if you would prefer a custom curriculum created for you catering to your specific needs and ambitions, I'm very happy to make and provide that as well! I love to ensure my students have a thorough understanding of the technical/musical aspect that we're working on, because when we're empowered with understanding, achieving success at the task becomes so much easier!

If Music Theory is a subject you need help with, we can definitely work on that too, as Music Theory has been an integral and consistent component of my training and it's a subject I love to teach.

I look forward to helping you reach your unique aspirations! Learning music is so rewarding, and the process can be equally exciting with a good plan and enthusiastic approach.
