About
Hello! I’m Teacher Ave, a music teacher from the Philippines with over 27 years of experience at Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu, one of the country’s most prestigious Jesuit-run schools, and 4 years at the Yamaha School of Music. I hold a Bachelor of Music, a Master’s Degree in Music Education with a Kodály Emphasis, and a Diploma in Special Education (DSPED).
Since the pandemic, I’ve been teaching online piano lessons to students worldwide, bringing my classroom expertise into the comfort of their homes. My teaching style is encouraging, patient, and engaging, with lessons designed to strengthen rhythm, ear training, and sight reading using the Kodály approach.
🎶 What you can expect in my lessons:
-
Step-by-step guidance tailored to your level
-
Fun, interactive activities that make learning enjoyable
-
Strong focus on building confidence and musicality
-
Opportunities to perform in twice-yearly online recitals to celebrate progress
I welcome children, teens, and adult beginners—whether you’re playing piano for the very first time or developing your skills further. My mission is to make every lesson meaningful and inspiring, helping each student build a strong foundation while enjoying their musical journey.
Let’s make music together! 🎹✨
Teaching Style
My teaching style is nurturing, student-centered, and grounded in strong musical foundations. I incorporate the Kodály approach in my lessons, which emphasizes musicianship through singing, ear training, solfege, and rhythm syllables. This method helps students internalize music concepts more deeply and develop their listening and reading skills naturally.
Whether I’m teaching children or adults, I always tailor each lesson based on the student's level, learning style, and goals. I focus on:
🎵 Developing proper hand position and playing technique
🎵 Teaching sight-reading through step-by-step guidance
🎵 Strengthening aural skills through solfege and echo activities
🎵 Building rhythm and pulse awareness through clapping
🎵 Providing opportunities to perform through online recitals twice a year
I specialize in teaching beginners up to Level 4 students in online lessons, and up to Level 6 for face-to-face sessions. I love guiding students from their very first note toward becoming confident, independent musicians. I incorporate age-appropriate materials, interactive activities, and customized worksheets and games to keep lessons fun, engaging, and effective.
Let’s build a strong musical foundation together—one joyful lesson at a time!
Curriculum
My teaching method is rooted in the Kodály approach, which emphasizes internalizing music through singing, solfege, and rhythm syllables before applying it to the instrument. I incorporate ear training and a step-by-step progression in sight-reading, technique, and musical expression. Lessons are structured, engaging, and tailored to each student's age, level, and learning style—whether young child, teen, or adult.
I recommend a variety of student texts based on individual needs and goals, including:
- Music for Little Mozarts
- Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber
- John Thompson’s Easiest Piano Course
- Alfred Basic Piano Library
- Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course – Lesson Book
In addition, I provide custom worksheets, games, different online interactive activities, and listening exercises to reinforce learning in a fun and meaningful way.
