About

I'm Joao, a pianist and guitarist, music teacher, and researcher with 15+ years of teaching experience.

I hold a PhD in History and Theory of Music from University of California – Irvine and a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music (Piano Performance and Film Scoring/Composition).

Students in my private music studio have been accepted to Berklee College of Music, Columbia, McGill, NYU, Rutgers, and University of California, among others.

I have toured Europe, Brazil, South Korea, and the US as a pianist, and have composed and arranged music for film, theater, and dance.

Teaching Style

I believe that the most important aspect of teaching music is creating a positive and individualized learning environment that gives you the necessary skills to play an instrument successfully and confidently.

My mission is to help each student achieve their musical potential and to discover the joy of music. My teaching method gives each student a well-rounded music education that ensures real progress, regardless of age or musical background.

I place great emphasis on fostering creativity, as well as on technique, ear training, music theory, and on the use of contemporary songs and classical repertoire.

Curriculum

I use my own teaching approach developed over many years of teaching students from all ages and backgrounds.
