Christopher Jones
About
Hello! My name is Coach Christopher, and I am a professional vocalist, performer, and educator with over 15 years of teaching and performance experience. I hold a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Music Education from Langston University. My professional background includes performing nationally and internationally with opera companies, musical theater productions, and concert ensembles. Some of my favorite roles include Nelson in Porgy and Bess and André/Ken in Ain’t Misbehavin’.
Teaching Approach
I believe that every voice is unique and deserves to be nurtured with care, patience, and joy. My teaching approach blends solid vocal technique with creativity, expression, and confidence-building. I tailor lessons to the individual student—whether you are preparing for auditions, working on stage repertoire, or simply want to explore your voice for personal growth. My goal is to help students connect not just with their sound, but also with their identity and emotions, so they can sing with freedom and authenticity.
What to Expect in Lessons
Warm-ups that develop breath support, tone, and flexibility
Exercises for pitch accuracy, range expansion, and vocal health
Repertoire study across genres (classical, jazz, musical theater, gospel, and contemporary styles)
Coaching on performance skills, storytelling, and stage presence
A supportive environment that encourages self-expression and creativity
I enjoy working with students of all ages and backgrounds, from beginners to advanced singers. Whether you’re singing for fun, preparing for college auditions, or pursuing a professional career, I am dedicated to guiding you on your vocal journey.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is supportive, encouraging, and student-centered. I meet students where they are and help them grow at their own pace, combining structure with creativity. I focus on developing healthy vocal technique while also nurturing confidence and self-expression. Lessons are interactive and engaging—blending exercises, repertoire, and real-world performance skills.
I like to use imagery, storytelling, and body awareness to help students connect their voice to emotion and meaning, not just sound. I also bring in elements of rhythm, movement, and cultural influences to make singing feel natural and expressive. My goal is always to create a safe, uplifting space where students feel free to explore, take risks, and discover the power of their unique voice.
Curriculum
I use a holistic and individualized teaching method that combines classical vocal technique with modern approaches to artistry and expression. I emphasize breath support, pitch accuracy, tone quality, and diction, while also helping students develop stage presence and confidence. My approach is flexible: I adapt lessons to the student’s goals—whether that’s singing opera, musical theatre, R&B, gospel, or simply learning to sing for personal joy.
I believe in building strong foundations (healthy technique, vocal health, and body awareness) and then moving into artistry (storytelling, emotional connection, and personal style). My lessons are interactive, blending vocal warm-ups, ear training, sight-reading, and repertoire study.
Recommended Student Texts
Depending on the student’s level and goals, I may recommend:
Vaccai: Practical Method of Italian Singing (for building classical foundation and vocal agility)
24 Italian Songs and Arias (for beginner–intermediate classical singers)
The Singer’s Musical Theatre Anthology series (for Broadway and stage repertoire)
Anthology of African and African American Songs (to connect culture and voice)
Teacher-curated song selections for gospel, R&B, jazz, and contemporary styles
I also encourage students to keep a practice journal to track exercises, goals, and reflections.
