About

Hello! I’m Michelle Alodia, a classical pianist currently studying a Bachelor of Music at HKU Utrecht Conservatorium under Klára Würtz. I have been teaching piano since junior high school, starting as a teacher assistant and gradually developing my own private teaching practice. I’ve taught students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced, covering piano technique, music theory, solfege, and performance preparation.

As a performer, I have experience as a soloist, accompanist, and duo performer, presenting classical repertoire in concerts across Indonesia and the Netherlands. These experiences allow me to bring practical performance insights into my lessons. I can teach in English, Indonesian, and am also learning Dutch — which helps me connect with students who are also language learners.

Teaching Style

My lessons are student-centered, encouraging, and flexible. I adapt each session to the student’s goals, whether it’s playing for fun, stress relief, preparing for exams, or developing classical performance skills. I focus on both technical mastery and musical expression, helping students overcome challenges with practical tips, exercises, and positive reinforcement.

I aim to make each lesson engaging and enjoyable, so students build confidence, develop a love for music, and experience a sense of achievement every step of the way.

Curriculum

I combine structured technique practice with creative learning:

  • Emphasis on fundamental technique, including scales, arpeggios, and posture.
  • Integration of music theory and solfege to support reading, sight-playing, and musical understanding.
  • Gradual preparation for performances, competitions, or exams, depending on student goals.
  • Use of progressive exercises, practice strategies, and problem-solving tips to tackle difficult passages efficiently.
  • Encouragement of musical interpretation and expression alongside technical skill.

Depending on your level and goals, I recommend:

Beginners:

  • Alfred’s Basic Piano Library
  • Faber Piano Adventures
  • Simple classical pieces (Bach Minuets, Clementi Sonatinas)

Intermediate:

  • Burgmüller 25 Progressive Pieces
  • Czerny Exercises (Op. 599 / Op. 849)
  • Easy Mozart or Beethoven Sonatinas

Advanced / Classical Focus:

  • Bach Inventions / Preludes
  • Beethoven Sonatas (selected movements)
  • Chopin Nocturnes / Mazurkas
  • Performance repertoire tailored to competitions or recitals
