Brenna McFarland
About
Hey there! My name is Brenna. I'm a voice teacher, operatic soprano, musical theater performer, lounge singer, church chorister, and all-around-obsessed-with-music person! Here's my bio: Praised for her “infectious enthusiasm” and “charm” on the stage (BoorAboutTown Toronto), Brenna McFarland is a soprano in the Boston, MA area. She recently received her Masters of Music in Voice and Opera from McGill University (Montreal, QC). Some of her performed roles include Margaret Johnson in The Light in the Piazza, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Apparition in Macbeth, Lady Anne in Camelot, and Johanna in Sweeney Todd.
Beyond the stage, Brenna is also an avid art song recitalist and oratorio soloist, performing solos in Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s St Johannes Passion as well as multiple German lieder and French mélodie recitals. Some awards she has received include First Place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Musical Theater division, Finalist in the 2024 Classical Singer Music Competition, and Third Place in Hal Leonard’s National Art Song Competition. She is a recipient of the 2024 Alexis Hauser Scholarship for Advanced Musical Study in Austria and the 2024 Graduate Mobility Award from McGill University.
Demonstrating her versatility across genres, she is often seen gigging around the D.C. area and Boston anywhere from jazz lounges to Disney princess parties.
Brenna is currently completing her Professional Studies Diploma at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. This winter, she excited to sing Mélisande in the abridged version of Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande at Boston Conservatory, as well as Rosalinda in Winter Harbor Music Festival's production of Die Fledermaus. She is a graduate of James Madison University with a dual degree Bachelors of Music in Voice Performance and Bachelors of Arts in Communications Studies.
Teaching Style
I love exploring all the sounds a voice can make in a judgemental-free, exploratory zone! As a voice teacher, I specialize in guiding students across a wide spectrum of vocal styles—classical, musical theatre, pop, and beyond. I love helping singers not only strengthen their technique but also find authenticity in their sound. Whether I’m introducing a new student to their first notes or coaching an experienced singer toward new expressive freedom, I approach teaching with patience, creativity, and joy. Music has always been my ultimate way of finding peace, power, confidence and connection, and I truly believe in helping budding musicians discover and nurture that same spark in themselves.
