About

I welcome all ages and levels of students. I have been professionally teaching guitar at universities and school systems for 12 years.  I currently teach guitar at the University of Maine at Augusta, Colby College, and Bates College.

I have had experience playing with many notable musicians including Denny Breau for the Lenny Breau tribute concerts held at the Franco American Church in Lewiston, Maine. I have collaborated with Brad Terry, a jazz clarinetist, playing jazz guitar and clarinet duos all over New England, as well as Europe.

I have freelanced and shared the stage with notable jazz musicians and songwriters such as saxophonist Charlie Kohlhase, jazz drummer and composer RJ Miller, jazz saxophonist George Garzone, jazz bassist Ben Street, jazz harmonica player and songwriter William Gallison, jazz pianist and composer Joachim Mencel, and songwriter Joe Henry.

I have recorded singles with country songwriter Johnny Clay Shanks including "Seein' Double", "Man your Guns", and "Ball and Chain". I have recorded albums with Myles Bullen including "Healing Hurts", and "Not Dead Yet". I have recorded an album with Cilla Bonnie called "Somehow".

I have made video demo's of hand built acoustic guitars by a luthier in Maine named Bill Russo. These videos are on YouTube and demonstrate Bill's phenomonal skills as a guitar builder.

Teaching Style

My teaching style incorporates fundamentals with students individual goals and needs.  I will support a student to learn at their own pace and in their own direction while providing essential guidance towards gaining a better understanding and grasp of the instrument.

Curriculum

I use a combination of my own texts that are provided to the student, and texts from other sources such as Hal Leonard's Guitar method and Berkeley's Guitar method. I find every student is a little bit different and requires different combinations of texts or materials.
