About
I am a classically trained violist, violinist, and pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience. I started learning piano at age 5 and began studying viola and violin at age 10. I have been teaching in person and virtually at Queen City Music Studio in Cincinnati since 2019, working with students of various ages and levels. My teaching is highly personalized, focusing on healthy technique, musical understanding, and building confidence for students of all ages. I work with beginners through advanced players, and I teach in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
I earned my Master of Music in Viola Performance in 2017 and an Artist Diploma in Viola Performance in 2019 from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where I studied under Dr. Catharine Lees and Mr. Masao Kawasaki with the support of a Graduate Incentive Award Scholarship. I previously completed my Bachelor’s degree in Taipei, Taiwan, majoring in viola performance with a minor in piano performance. My professional experience includes performances at the Tyzen Hsiao Memorial Concert in Chicago in 2015, the Green Mountain Music Festival in 2016, and the Cincinnati Young Artist Chamber Music Festival in 2019, where I participated on a full scholarship. I was also a prize winner in a local radio competition as a string quartet member and performed frequently at national concert halls in Taiwan prior to pursuing advanced studies in the United States.
During my professional training, I performed in chamber ensembles, orchestras, contemporary projects, and collaborative recitals in the United States and internationally, and I bring that artistic background into my lessons.
My teaching philosophy focuses on building healthy technique, confidence, musical expression, and emotional connection with the instrument. I adapt my approach to each student’s learning style, personality, and goals.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is patient, intuitive, and very personalized. I believe every student learns differently, so I adjust my approach according to each student’s goals, personality, and way of learning.
I focus on building a solid technical foundation while also nurturing musicality, confidence, and a personal sense of expression. I want music to feel inspiring rather than stressful, and I make sure the learning process stays encouraging and enjoyable.
Whether you are a complete beginner or an adult returning to music, my goal is to guide your progress with clarity, empathy, and thoughtful support.
I teach in both English and Mandarin Chinese and I love helping students from different backgrounds connect with music in a personal and meaningful way.
I truly enjoy guiding students as they discover their own voice, whether they are 4 years old or 80.
