About

Hi! My name is Jeremiah McBeth and I've been in love with music since I was 12. I started playing guitar and taking lessons from a local teacher around that age. I'm 39 now so I have around 27 years of playing experience. I started playing in a band in high school with friends that helped me experience playing with other musicians and launched me into writing my own music. As I got older and more experienced my curiosity led me to start taking some music theory and songwriting classes through the Berklee College of Music around the age of 25. I took and completed Music Theory 101, Getting Into Harmony and Applying Lyrics to Music. This really helped me to excel as a musician and led me to be a multi-instrumentalist. I can now play 4 instruments...Guitar(acoustic, 6 and 7 string electric) piano/keyboard, bass guitar and drums. Music is a part of me and I would love to pass on all of the knowledge I've gained in music to others because music is a gift to be shared.

I have played at several local bars and venues. One of them being at Ryan's Ballroom in Combined Locks. I also played in battle of the bands at Little Chute High School. It was a blast! These locations are in my home state of Wisconsin. When it was open many big name bands played there. I was rhythm and lead guitar in my band Mercy's End at that time. I have also given many private lessons to friends and others in past years. I really enjoy teaching and passing on the knowledge I have gained while traveling along my musical adventure. I have played with several local musicians writing music and just having fun. I'm a studio musician at the moment just writing my own music and hoping to teach the art to others who crave the knowledge.

Teaching Style

For the someone just starting out I feel keeping it simple is key along with having fun! An introduction to theory and the musical system is advantagious but not to much so it's discouraging or overwhelming. There is alot to soak up and know. I also believe that it comes down to inspiration as well. Philosophy too. Why do you want to play music, what is your goal and what inspires you to do so. Self expression, artisic expression, curiousity are a few motivators. For the intermediate player I would introduce some more complex topics such as scales, arpeggios and how chord progressions are built from scales and modes. For a more advanced player I would introduce improvisation using theory. There is more but this is how I would teach in a nutshell.

Curriculum

When it comes to guitar I recommend The Guitar Grimoire by Adam Kadmon. These books have thouroughly enlightened me in the realms of music theory and guitar. But not only guitar there are the keyboard grimoire and bass grimoire as well. These are very extensive and elaborate studies into the world of theory. After you study these texts they act as a useful reference manual for original song writing and theory comprehension. I still use them to this day. I believe you have to start with the basics and build upon that knowledge as you grow in your musical endeavors. Be it learning someone elses music or writing your own. I will always emphasize having fun and continuing to learn. I would have students utilize the lesson plan I create for them using the musical knowledge I present them with along with a metronome so they can practice playing in different times. I would also introduce the notation as well. My main goal is to teach my student through the tools I'm using to compose there own music.
