About
I´ve been playing guitar for 45 years and have been teaching and performing for for last 24.I attended Berklee College of Music having previously been mostly self-taught. Before Berklee I studied guitar in Spain with Gabriel Rosales from 1991-1994 and became interested in jazz, previously I had been a rock player and played in various rock bands.
My first love is classical music and both my father and uncle were classically trained singers and pianists. My second instrument is piano which I studied for 2 semesters at Berklee, however my main focus at college was guitar. My declared major was composition, but later on I switched to performance, but I still like to compose music both on guitar and piano. I graduated from Berklee with honors in 2001 with a degree in performance having been awarded an achievement scholarship.
In spring 2003 I played in the orchestra of the Boston premiere of the Broadway musical The Wild Party.I also played in the Boston production of The Rocky Horror Show in fall 2004 and the Boston production of the musical Joseph in summer 2008.After graduating I continued to study jazz improvisation with world famous trombonist Hal Crook from 2002- 2007.
I worked as a professional transcriber from 2011-2012 for a music publishing company SamanaLive.com.sg based in Singapore. The work consisted of transcribing and notating for guitar and piano Bollywood musical hit songs.
I have been teaching guitar here in Spain in music schools for the last 15 years I taught at Aula de Mùsica de Terrassa from 2010- 2013 teaching guitar, harmony and solfège to adults and children in group and private lessons.I also taught at Escola Gravi de Barcelona from 2011-2021 teaching guitar to students in primary and secondary school.
From 2013-2021 I worked at Escola Pia de Terrassa teaching guitar to primary and secondary school students.Currently I am teaching at Escola de Mùsica E8 in Terrassa and have been teaching guitar there since 2013.In May 2012 I performed at the Jazzman club in Barcelona with the Black Coffee Duet. And also performed regularly at the Cafe de I´Aula jazz club in Terrassa from 2013- 2021.I continue to teach, perform and compose music.
Teaching Style
I go over with the student to see what their goals and level are.I aim to provide a very systematic and structured approach to learning guitar. This may involve sight reading, depending on the student. This could also involve ear training, again if this interests the student. Many students want to learn guitar just as a hobby and are only interested in learning songs, which is great because even within songs aspects of technique and musicality can be learned.I also go over a realistic practice plan, depending on their goals, available time and age.I may also encourage the student to keep a log of their practice as this can help to keep things organized and can function as a sort of to do list. In the 24 plus years of teaching I've found that part of my job is to be a mentor and coach. Every student has a different personality, but I think that if you show them that you care that they learn and progress then they are more willing to buy into your system.
