Teaching Style

Teaching has interested me since day one. Alongside my performance studies, I formally studied pedagogy at university, which strengthened my understanding of how students learn, develop technique, and build long-term musical independence. Since the age of 15, I have been actively helping and teaching students of different ages and levels, both informally and in structured settings.

My teaching style is student-centered, methodical, and adaptable, focusing on solid technical foundations, healthy posture and sound production, and musical curiosity. I aim to help students understand why they play a certain way, encouraging critical thinking rather than imitation alone. I place strong emphasis on listening skills, efficient practice strategies, and confidence-building, while tailoring repertoire and technical work to each student’s individual needs and goals.

Teaching is not secondary to my performing career—it is something I genuinely value and would love to pursue full time as part of my professional life.

Curriculum

"Teacher is one of the most important factor for a musician Vasco Canastra is an amazing teacher. He knows nearly every technique that would help anyone in improving what they need to improve. I remember the time when he was helping his friends by giving them violin lessons, everything they made with him was in the best quality after few lessons. He has amazing talent of explaining hard things very easily in every way. He knows how to choose the personal language for his students. He is also very good personal tutor for any musician who wants to improve his skills. He was helping my young brother with his cello practicing and in 3 weeks (9 practice sessions) he had bigger progress that he could have in one year. He is very kind and human person and his nerves are made from the steal. I wish I had a teacher as he is when I was a violinist. I think that if anyone will be lucky enough to be his student, they will gain mo than they ever thought they could do." Elene Gogodze.

"Vasco is a talented and comprehensive musician, who uses tried and tested old-school violin pedagogy methods with generous elements of modern pedagogy whenever and wherever suitable. He is recommended to all, including beginners who want a headstart and success later in life, even if only for fun." Maciej Rzepczyc.
