Jovan Perunicic
About
I am a classically trained pianist and piano instructor based in Belgrade, with extensive experience as both a performer and educator. I currently work as a piano accompanist at the “Živorad Grbić” Music School in Valjevo, Serbia, where in 2 previous years I also worked as a teacher and where I collaborate with students and instrumentalists of different levels. As a teacher, I focus on building strong technical foundations while helping students develop musical understanding, stylistic awareness, and confidence at the instrument. I enjoy working with students of all ages and tailoring my approach to each individual’s goals, whether they are beginners discovering the piano for the first time or advanced students preparing repertoire and competitions.
As for my education, I completed both my elementary and secondary music education in Musical school "Mokranjac", studying with Professors Milica Vasiljevic-Bisenic and Snezana Milosavljevic. During this 10 years I received numerous awards, including First Prizes at the Serbian Music Schools Festival (2012), the “Josip Slavenski” Competition (2017), the “Mihajlo Vukdragović” Competition in Šabac (2018), and the International Sirmium Music Fest, where I was also awarded a Special Prize for the best performance of a work by Alexander Scriabin (2019). I was a laureate of the Piano Festival in Sremska Mitrovica (2013, 2019) and received Second Prize at the Alink–Argerich Foundation’s “Piano Talents” International Competition in Milan (2019), competing as the youngest participant in the senior category.
I pursued my higher education at the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade in the class of Professor Ljiljana Vukelja, while simultaneously studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, where I studied with Professor Libor Nováček and later Professor Ayke Straub, graduating with the highest honors in October 2023. I also completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Belgrade and from October 2025 I started doing my PhD studies there.
Alongside my studies, I have performed extensively in Serbia and abroad, appearing at venues such as the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the National Museum in Belgrade, the Shigeru Kawai Center in Madrid, the Giuseppe Verdi House in Milan, Schloss Colditz near Leipzig, and the Gustav Mahler Philharmonic Hall in Jihlava. I have further refined my artistry through masterclasses with Saša Bajčić, Giuseppe Devastato, Ruben Dalibaltayan, and Sofija Gubajdulina, experiences that strongly shape my pedagogical and artistic approach today.
Teaching Style
I strive to create a focused, supportive, and motivating learning environment in which students feel confident to grow and challenge themselves. I work with beginners, intermediate, and advanced students of all ages, supporting those who are pursuing exams, auditions, and performances, as well as students who simply wish to learn piano for personal enjoyment and relaxation. I particularly enjoy guiding students in repertoire development, technical problem-solving, and performance preparation. Drawing on my experience as an active performer and collaborative pianist, I also help students develop stage presence, musical communication, and effective practice strategies. My goal is not only to help students improve at the piano, but to foster independence, curiosity, and a deeper connection to music that will stay with them beyond the lesson itself.
My teaching style is rooted in classical piano tradition, with a strong emphasis on healthy technique, musical awareness, and long-term artistic development. I believe that solid fundamentals—such as posture, tone production, hand coordination, and efficient practice habits—are essential at every level, and I integrate these elements naturally into each lesson. At the same time, I encourage students to think musically from the very beginning, helping them understand phrasing, structure, harmony, and style rather than simply playing the notes. Lessons are carefully adapted to each student’s pace, personality, and goals, whether they are learning for personal enjoyment, academic progress, or professional ambitions. 😊
