Michael Bloomer
About
I’m a qualified musician and music teacher, offering online lessons in guitar, bass, and music theory, with over 20 years of playing experience.
I studied my undergraduate BA in Popular Music and Recording at Salford University graduating in 2021 with a 2:1 with honours. I then went on to get a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in music from Manchester Metropolitan University.
During my PGCE I worked a St. Julies High School in Liverpool, then Kings Leadership Academy in Warrington. After graduating with my PGCE I taught music in Childwall Sports and Science Academy in Liverpool from Septermber to December 2022. Then taught music at Didsbury High School in Manchester from January to July 2023.
I specialise in helping beginners and developing players build confidence through clear explanations, structured lessons, and a relaxed learning environment. My aim is to help you understand what you’re playing, not just copy shapes or exercises, so that music feels enjoyable rather than confusing.
My lessons are calm, supportive, and practical. I take time to explain ideas clearly and adapt lessons to your pace, goals, and musical interests. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or returning after a break, I’ll help you build strong foundations and make steady progress.
Alongside instrumental lessons, I also teach music theory in a practical, accessible way, always linking it directly to real playing so it feels useful and relevant.
If you’re looking for a patient, encouraging teacher who values clarity, structure, and enjoyment, I’d be happy to work with you.
Teaching Style
My lessons are relaxed and clearly structured, with a strong focus on understanding and confidence. I explain things step by step, adapt to your pace, and always connect ideas to real playing so progress feels natural and enjoyable.
Curriculum
My teaching method is clear, structured, and practical, with lessons tailored to each student’s level, goals, and learning pace. Sessions are planned but flexible, allowing us to focus on the areas that will support steady, confident progress.
I break techniques and musical concepts into manageable steps, combining explanation, demonstration, and guided practice. For guitar and bass, lessons focus on solid technique, rhythm, and musical understanding while learning music that keeps lessons enjoyable and motivating. Music theory is always taught in a practical way and linked directly to real playing.
I don’t rely on a single method book. Instead, I use a range of trusted beginner and intermediate materials, alongside custom exercises and practice notes provided after lessons. Resources are chosen to suit the individual student, ensuring clarity, confidence, and long-term development rather than rote learning.
