Don Striez
About
I’m a professional acoustic guitar player performing weekly in the resort location of Los Cabos, Mexico, and I specialize in helping students play real songs quickly and confidently — not just practice exercises.
My teaching style is simple and focused:
✔ Learn songs from day one
✔ Build a repertoire you can actually play for people
✔ Develop confidence and flow on the guitar
Beginners:
You’ll play your first song in your very first lesson, and within 12 weeks you’ll have a solid set of songs you can play comfortably for friends, family, or small gatherings.
Intermediate players:
We’ll clean up your timing, improve transitions, and build a repertoire you can play smoothly without stopping.
Advanced players / performers:
I help you take it to the next level:
• Singing and playing at the same time
• Learning lead guitar in a simple, practical way
• Using a looper for solo performance
• Structuring a full live set
• Arranging songs for acoustic performance
• Building confidence to play live
I also host weekly acoustic music sessions, and when you’re ready, you’ll have the opportunity to perform in a supportive, real-world environment.
If your goal is not just to “learn guitar,” but to actually play songs, build a repertoire, and feel confident performing, this is a focused, results-driven approach designed to get you there quickly.
Teaching Style
My Teaching Style
My approach is simple, practical, and focused on results.
We skip unnecessary theory and focus on what actually helps you play.
Lessons are built around real songs, with step-by-step guidance so you can improve quickly without feeling overwhelmed.
I adapt each lesson to your level and goals, whether you’re just starting out or working toward live performance.
The goal is always the same: to get you playing confidently, enjoying the process, and making real progress every week.
Curriculum
Teaching Method
My teaching approach is song-centered and practical. I help students stay focused on learning real songs they enjoy playing, while introducing music theory only as it becomes useful within those songs. Rather than overwhelming students with theory first, I teach chords, rhythm, progressions, and fretboard concepts in context, so learning feels natural and immediately applicable.
Students build a repertoire they can actually use—songs they can perform for themselves or others—while developing skills efficiently and with confidence. I emphasize learning quickly through simple, effective methods, repetition, and real musical application.
For guitar students, I also help simplify songs into playable arrangements, explore chord variations, and develop accompaniment skills for singing and performance.
Teaching Philosophy
Good students make progress when lessons are engaging, practical, and tied to music they love. My goal is to help students build momentum, enjoy the process, and leave each lesson able to play something new.

Ensemble Leadership / Group Teaching
Founder and leader of The BlueSky Acoustic Sessions
I lead a weekly unplugged acoustic jam session where I help musicians learn to play together as an ensemble, work up new songs each week, and develop listening, timing, arrangement, and collaboration skills.
Current sessions include acoustic guitarists, singers, cello, violin, saxophone, harmonica, and banjo players. I lead the sessions, cue the songs, organize the song lists, and help musicians learn how to support each other in a live group setting.
