Margali Grenier
About
Margali Grenier (she/her) is Founder, President, and Executive Director of the nonprofit ensemble Plattsburgh Community Clarinet Choir, Incorporated (PCC), and Founder and Owner of Major Fifth Music. She is an active performer, educator, and instrument repair technician specialising in the curation and production of concerts featuring newly commissioned music. She performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Canada and is recognised for her interpretive work as a low clarinetist. Her artistic collaborations include performances with the Verona String Quartet and the US Air Force Liberty Clarinet Quartet, as well as appearances at International Clarinet Association LowFest and ClarinetFest.
Teaching Style
Margali's teaching style is characterised by a supportive and adaptable approach that meets students at their individual level and builds confidence through personalised instruction. She works with students ranging from beginners to university-level musicians and adult returners, fostering musical independence while encouraging curiosity, creativity, and long-term artistic growth.
Curriculum
Instruction is tailored to each instrumentalist through ongoing assessment of skills, interests, and motivation. Lessons integrate music by living composers alongside traditional repertoire, emphasising interpretation, flexibility of style, and artistic voice beyond conventional classical expectations. Students under her guidance have achieved success in district, regional, all-county, and all-state ensembles, as well as college music auditions.
Credentials & Affiliations
Founder of the annual Clarinouveau commissioning initiative, which has produced more than two dozen world premieres featuring international composers and guest artists. Selected participant at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance LampNOW New Music Concert Series and Bass Clarinet Masterclass, and invited contrabass soloist at the Académie de Clarinette Basse de Québec at Université Laval. Member of L’Association Canadienne de Clarinette Basse. Performs with the Plattsburgh Clarinet Choir, Montréal Clarinet Choir, Adirondack Wind Ensemble, York River Symphony Orchestra, Chesapeake Bay Wind Ensemble, and Virginia Wind Symphony. Continues professional study with artists including Sarah Watts, Christine Hoerning, André Moisan, Mélanie Bourassa, and Jonathan Russell.
